Activities in Romania

Nestled in the heart of Transylvania, just a scenic 2–3 hour drive from Bucharest’s Henri Coandă International Airport, our property serves as the perfect gateway to Romania’s soul-stirring wonders. Whether you join one of our curated private tours with trusted local guides or prefer to wander at your own pace in a chauffeured vintage Dacia or luxury 4×4, these unforgettable day excursions should not be missed:

TRANSYLVANIA’S SAXON FORTIFIED CHURCHES & SIGHISOARA

Step back into a living fairy tale in the timeless Saxon villages of Transylvania. Begin in Biertan, where the majestic 15th-century fortified church — a UNESCO World Heritage masterpiece — rises dramatically above rolling hills and emerald meadows. Continue to Sighişoara, Europe’s only entirely inhabited medieval citadel and the birthplace of Vlad the Impaler (the real Dracula). Stroll cobbled lanes lined with candy-coloured merchants’ houses, climb the 164-step Scholars’ Stairs to the Church on the Hill, and savour a refined lunch of slow-cooked wild boar stew, smoked pork knuckle with horseradish, and velvety sheep’s cheese drizzled with forest honey, paired with robust Fetească Neagră from nearby Jidvei vineyards.

BRAN CASTLE & THE CARPATHIAN MOUNTAINS

No journey to Romania is complete without the iconic “Dracula’s Castle”. Perched high on a rocky crag, Bran Castle’s turrets and secret passages whisper centuries of legend and history. Afterwards, venture deeper into the wild Carpathians along the breathtaking Transfăgărășan highway (open June–October) or Transalpina — roads that twist through alpine meadows ablaze with wildflowers, past thundering waterfalls and glassy glacial lakes. Stop for a mountain picnic of homemade plăcintă (flaky cheese or apple pastries), mititei grilled over open flames, and a glass of ţuică plum brandy strong enough to wake the dragons.

THE PAINTED MONASTERIES OF BUCOVINA

In northern Romania’s gentle green hills lies a constellation of 15th- and 16th-century Orthodox masterpieces. The UNESCO-listed painted monasteries — Voroneț (the “Sistine Chapel of the East”), Humor, Moldovița, and Sucevița — are adorned with vivid Byzantine frescoes on their exterior walls, miraculously preserved for over 500 years. The cobalt “Voroneț blue” has never been replicated since. Between visits, enjoy a traditional lunch at a local pensiunea: creamy mushroom and smoked bacon ciorbă soup, sarmale (cabbage rolls) slow-cooked in clay pots, and papanasi — warm doughnuts drowned in sour cream and wild-berry jam.

THE DANUBE DELTA

A world apart, Europe’s best-preserved delta is a labyrinth of reed-fringed channels, floating islands, and mirror-still lakes teeming with over 300 bird species, including elegant pelicans and glossy ibis. Glide silently in a private wooden boat at dawn or sunset, when the water turns molten gold. Savour freshly grilled carp or catfish straight from the Delta, accompanied by garlic sauce and mamaliga (creamy polenta), while white-tailed eagles soar overhead and the only sound is the splash of leaping sturgeon.

Romania is not merely a destination — it is a revelation. Ancient forests that still shelter brown bears and wolves, medieval citadels frozen in time, and a warmth of hospitality that lingers long after the last glass of ţuică. Let us craft your perfect Romanian story, one extraordinary day at a time.
